CERB Inquiry Letter from SERVICE CANADA – INTEGRITY SERVICES

Brothers and Sisters,

Many of our members have recently received an inquiry letter from Service Canada – Integrity Services in regard to CERB payments received in 2020.  It is important to note that the Union had no notification nor communication from the federal government about these letters.  This is the fourth communication that we are aware of from Service Canada regarding CERB and overpayments.

It is important to answer the letter if you have received one or if you get one in the future.  From the letters we have seen, it is evident that each case is different and based on each individual’s unique scenario.  Therefore, as it is important to answer the letter, to the best of your ability.

It may be of assistance to reference this Notice from the Company on September 17th, 2020 and article from our website about CEWS(CPDA) payments and CERB and/or EI repayments required.

If you are unsure of the timeline listed on your letter you can come to the Union Benefit Office for assistance.  Please note that we anticipate that these letters will be going out to approximately 700 of our members.  As such, there may be delays in contacting or responses from the Benefit Office.  We will, however, endeavor to work as quickly as possible and make every effort to assist each member that requires help.

To help us track all affected members, it would help if you would provide the Union a copy of your letter.  Once you answer the letter you can make a copy and drop it off at the Union Benefit Office or send to my email at pivey@ford.com .  It is possible that the government will be looking to recoup CERB payments if you had earnings of $1000 or more in a 4-week block.  We will continue to update the membership as information becomes available.

In Solidarity,

Paul Ivey

Unifor Local 707 Benefit Representative
