Brothers and Sisters,

There are a few scenarios that members may fall into for these layoff weeks.  Please read below to see which scenario best describes your situation.

#1

  • You were laid off PP20, May 5-11, 2024, and you worked your last scheduled shift the week of April 29 to May 3, 2024, or had an authorized day off you last scheduled shift.  If this is your scenario then you will qualify for the holiday Friday May 17, 2024.  Therefore, for PP21, you need to Report 8 hours worked and income of (your rate of pay x 8 hours) for PP21, May 12-18, 2024.

To recap:  Week 1 (PP20): May 5-11, 2024, report $0.  Week 2 (PP21): May 12-18, 2024, report 8 hours worked.

#2

  • You were laid off PP20, May 5-11, 2024, and you did NOT work your last scheduled shift the week of April 29 to May 3, 2024, and/or did NOT have an authorized day off.  If this is your scenario then you will NOT qualify for the holiday Friday May 17, 2024.  Therefore, Report 0 hours worked and $0 income PP21, May 12-18, 2024.

To recap:  Week 1 (PP20): May 5-11, 2024, report $0.  Week 2 (PP21): May 12-18, 2024, report $0.

#3

  • You worked or had 40 hours vacation in PP20, May 5-11, 2024, and did not work PP21, May 12-18, 2024, and have an open active EI claim and you have been continuing your bi-weekly reports.  If this is your scenario then you will be entitled to Short Work Week for PP21, May 12-18, 2024.  Report 40 hours worked and income of (your rate of pay x 40) for the week of PP21, May 12-18, 2024.  If you worked in PP20 and are entitled to Short Work Week for PP21 then you will also be entitled to Short Work Week for PP22

To recap:  Week 1 (PP20): May 5-11, 2024, report 40 hours work.  Week 2 (PP21): May 12-18, 2024, report 40 hours worked.

#4

  • You worked PP20, May 5-11, 2024, but your EI claim is inactive because you reported a return to work or forgot to complete your reports or if your EI claim had come to an end.  If this is your scenario then you will be entitled to Short Work Week for PP21, May 12-18, 2024.  There is no need, at this time, to report and no need to apply to re-open/re-activate nor begin a NEW claim.  If you worked in PP20 and are entitled to Short Work Week for PP21 then you will also be entitled to Short Work Week for PP22.  Until you have a week where you will receive no pay, there is no need to apply for EI.

To recap:  No report required and No application at this time.  Apply for EI once laid off.
