 November 2024 Update

Brothers & Sisters,

As we move into the final month of 2024, many of our members understandably are interested in the progress being made at the Oakville Assembly Complex.  With salvage and demolition operations completed, the next phase of the retool is underway.  For the next few months, much of the work that is scheduled to take place site wide will be civil work, installation of IT infrastructure, floor repairs where required, and painting.  It is important for our production members to note, our skilled trades have continued to be utilized during the retool and have been supplemented by outside contractors.  For those who may be driving by the facility you will see assets and materials for the retool being staged in the West lot.  The area slated to be the sight of our future stamping plant has been cleared in preparation to break ground.

The industrial engineers are working through future state job allocations, work ownership, and manning levels.  Once this is completed, the Union Leadership will be reviewing this information for its accuracy.  Many members have inquired about advanced job postings. Timelines for job posting will not be determined until all future state manning details are finalized.  Once details have been worked out the Union Leadership will share the required information with enough advanced notice for our members to be prepared for the job postings.

As per the negotiated terms of the amended Transition Blueprint, a re-canvass of existing retirement eligible production employees has been initiated.  This re-canvass is for those members who did not elect to retire when provided the opportunity under the terms of the 2023 retirement incentive program. Important to note, any member who declines the retirement incentive will be ineligible for any future retirement canvasses under the terms of this agreement.

Further retirement canvasses for those production members who become retirement eligible will begin no later than January of 2025 and continue through mid-2026. Members will be canvassed once to determine their interest in accepting a retirement incentive.  Important to note, just like those who are being re-canvassed, any member who declines the retirement incentive will be ineligible for any future retirement canvasses under the terms of this agreement.
