EI Clawbacks – 2025 Tax Year

IMPORTANT– (Please note before applying) : To receive a SUB reimbursement for an EI clawback, you must have line item “Social Benefit Repayment” (line 42200) on your 2025 Notice of Assessment after you have filed you taxes.

If you do not have “Social Benefit Repayment” (line 42200), then you may be required to pay further taxes on your 2025 tax return, however it would not be a result of an EI clawback. Therefore, you would not be eligible for the 2025 SUB re-imbursement and should not apply.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I Apply?

You may be eligible for SUB reimbursement of EI clawback if you meet certain criteria:

  • Your net income was more than $82,125.
  • You were laid off during the 2025 calendar year and received Regular EI benefit payments.
  • You qualify for SUB benefits.

You will not have an EI clawback and therefore do not need to apply for 2025 SUB reimbursement if you are:

  • A first-time EI claimant as you are exempt from the benefit repayment/clawback
  • A claimant who received EI Special benefits maternity, parental and sickness, you do not have to repay these benefits back.

If you do not have a line item for “Social Benefit Repayment” (Line 42200) on your Notice of

Assessment that is mailed to you after you file your taxes, you are not eligible.

Note: The EI benefit repayment threshold is $82,125 of net income with a repayment rate of 30%.  The maximum repayment is limited to 30% for a person with a net income in excess of $82,125.

Employees applying for the EI Clawback will need to submit the documents listed below in a sealed envelope with their Name and GID printed on the outside of envelope.

Submission can be made in the Main Plant Lobby via the mail slot on the wall to the right of the turnstile.

  • 2025 T4E – Employment Insurance tax receipt
  • 2025 Notice of Assessment (this statement is received when the government has assessed your income tax return)
  • 2025 T4 from Ford (*applicable if you collected S&A benefits in 2025)
  • 2025 T5007 (*applicable if you collected WSIB benefits in 2025)
