The vigil on December 6th is a commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada, honoring the memory of the 14 women murdered at École Polytechnique in 1989. More than 35 years later, the effects of this tragedy continue to be felt and women remain targets because of their gender. We each have the opportunity and the responsibility to stand up against misogyny, sexism and hate and it starts with creating a culture of respect. The vigil serves as a time for remembrance and a call to action against gender-based violence.
This day is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which begins on November 25th and ends on December 10th.
