How to address EI Application Delays

Have you recently applied to EI for Regular benefits to get an updated denial letter ?

Does your application seem to be delayed ?

Sometimes the delay is EI waiting on an updated ROE. An ROE should not be required if you have not worked. Ford has already sent the ROE and would only re-issue the one already there.

Try calling them (Service Canada)

1-800-206-7218 or

1-800-531-7555

Indicate you expect to be denied EI benefits due to insufficient hours.

  • Explain that you have not worked since your lay off in 2024
  • There is no updated ROE and they can use the last one, already on file with Service Canada

Indicate you require an updated and current EI Denial Letter as you may qualify for a SUB benefit from the Ford Motor Company if denied EI Benefits.

Be polite and ask the Service Canada agent to please process and finalize the application.

Sometimes Service Canada agents believe there might be a new ROE and they hold the EI application or claim, thinking they are doing you a favour. Be polite and ask them to process and finalize the claim.

Most agents will understand and complete (and deny) your application and issue a letter.

Then be sure to check the date within the letter.

This will read something like this example: you had 120 worked hours between January 5 and June 14 but require 650 hours to qualify for benefit. The bold June 14 date is to be noted.  This is the date to start your 12 week count.

To keep FULL SUB payments continuous and just in case EI delays their processing of your application, apply early to get your updated denial letter.  If you count from the date as indicated above you should maintain a smooth and continuous payment plan.
