Brothers & Sisters,
This morning the company announced that there will be no production at the Oakville Assembly Complex this week, due to a parts supply shortage.
Therefore, for the majority of members that did not work for the week commencing Monday September 12th 2022, this will be a temporary lay-off.
The company have indicated they are in the process of informing our members with a robo-call, as I write this article.
Employment Insurance Benefits
For those that have to start a new Employment Insurance claim or need to re-open their existing claim (as you previously declared that you returned to work full time), our Alternate Union Benefit Rep Tim Batke is in the process of attempting to obtain a new reference code from Service Canada. This reference code will be posted on our site as soon as possible, (hopefully within the next 48 hours), allowing members to use when filing their Employment Insurance application.
For the very few members that are still able to report to Service Canada with their existing personal access code, continue to do so to claim for E.I benefits.
Negotiated –Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB)
Temporary lay-off Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB) continue to be automatic and made payable without application, for active members on a temporary lay off who have no scheduled Vacation, EAA, Sickness and Accident Insurance or W.S.I.B Benefits during the week of the temporary lay-off.
Negotiated –Short Work Week Benefits (For the minority of members)
For Members with at least 3 years seniority, that performed some work for the company for the week begining Monday September 12th 2022 and had less than 40 compensated or available hours. You will qualify for Short Work Week Benefits and should not start a new Employment Insurance claim or re-open your exsisting claim.
As usual, I will continue to update the membership with further information, as it becomes available.
REFERENCE CODE UPDATE:
