As you may know, in their budget, the Federal government announced funds to build a Canada-wide Child Care system, and are now in discussion with Provinces and Territories about implementing this funding.

Momentum is building as provincial governments in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Yukon and Prince Edward Island have reached agreements to build this child care system. Now is the time to push our Ontario provincial government to endorse this program.

Time is of the essence, as we see the potential of a Federal Election being called in the coming weeks.  Once this happens, any negotiations or program acceptance will be paused.

Why is a publicly-funded Universal Child Care System Important?

  • The Federal funding model is based on quality non-profit care while reducing fees, expanding spaces available and supporting wages and working conditions of early learning and child care workers
  • Ontario is the largest province with some of the highest challenges when it comes to Child Care affordability and availability
  • Stability in the early learning and child care workforce is helpful for diverse families and in providing culturally-appropriate care
  • The fight for National Child Care has been happening for decades, and with the pandemic hitting women particularly hard, there is no better time to put a Universal Child Care system in place, to aid the workforce in a strong economic recovery

Together, we can make a difference for children who deserve quality care, child care workers who deserve decent work, and families who desperately need a National Child Care program now.
