Sisters and Brothers:

Ford Motor Company has agreed to return the last 2 remaining members from indefinite layoff. We are struggling with manpower issues in every department throughout the plant. As a local we realize recalling all of our indefinite laid off members doesn’t come close to the manpower needs we feel are required to run day to day operations, but unfortunately these are not our decisions to make. The in-plant committee will continue to address manpower issues daily making sure our membership’s needs are properly taken care of. We are trying to ensure members have opportunities to utilize remaining vacation, and personal days off.  Unifor workplace training is contractually negotiated and we are making sure the company lives up to what was bargained.

The company has also notified us of their intent to run production for 3 weekend opportunities, October 19th 2019, November 2nd 2019, and December7th 2019, these opportunities will be on a VOLUNTARY canvass. We have asked the company to begin canvassing early giving our members time to plan ahead. A little extra money before Christmas never hurts.

As always I will keep you abreast as information arises.

In Solidarity

Dave Thomas

President Unifor Local 707
