Hello,
Thank you for the support at the Union meeting in speaking about the issue of Bill 23 & The Greenbelt.
HANDS OFF THE GREENBELT!
BILL 23: Premier Ford’s LAND GRAB
Doug Ford is racing to ram through Bill 23 and make changes to the Greenbelt, he’s hoping people believe this land grab is about affordable housing.. it’s NOT!
Please show your support by participating in ongoing Actions that will help SAVE the GREENBELT. Send the message to Doug Ford and his Developer Buddies that we will Stand Up for Farmland, Food Security, Wetlands & Protected Natural Areas for Future Generations.
BILL 23:
A proposal to remove 7,400 acres of precious farmland and natural areas from the protected Greenbelt.
- Undermine the protection of wetlands, woodlands, rivers, streams and wildlife habitat across Ontario
- Destroy key land use planning processes that Ontario municipalities, Conservation Authorities and residents need in order to protect, manage and plan for climate- resilient ecosystems and communities
- The government is also eliminating key democratic processes and environmental protections to make it easier for developers to build what they want, where they want, and when they want, and forcing the rest of us to bear the financial, social and ecological costs… At a time of Climate Crisis & Biodiversity loss.
- No need for a LAND GRAB when there are 88,000 acres within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) already zoned and ready for development that can easily be incorporated into existing transit and urban services. In sum, there is more than enough land already available within urban boundaries to exceed long-range housing targets.
- The bill has no provisions to guarantee that any reduced costs to developers for building homes won’t simply be pocketed by developers, BILL 23 would take money out of taxpayers’ pockets and put it into the pockets of for-profit developers
I am forwarding this email from Halton Hills Climate Action. It gives up to date actions that can be posted on L707 website. I am including other links to local groups working hard to fight Bill 23 and to ensure Environmental Protections for future generations.

Remind them that the Greenbelt is sacred. That Bill 23 is all wrong. And/or that Halton had a plan that accommodated all the growth assigned to them within current boundaries, in walkable, transit supportive, vibrant communities that would easily include affordable housing. Give back our 5000 (+) acres of farmland! It’s not needed for required growth. This week, please act on at least one of the following: push to social media, leave a phone message, send emails, attend the webinars or go to Friday’s rally in Oakville. Spread the word: A huge coalition of diverse groups – agriculture, environment, labour, healthcare and housing – have just published a landmark document opposing Bill 23 and Greenbelt destruction. Have a look at the three pages of impressive signatures after their intro. Use the info to contact your MPP. |
