Brothers & Sisters,

After the ballots were counted during our most recent triennial election on March 18th, 2020 , it was revealed in accordance with the Constitution and our Local by-laws that we would be required to conduct a Local 707 run-off election for the following elected positions;

  • (1) Trustee
  • Guide
  • Sergeant of Arms and
  • (1) alternate Skilled Trade steward

This run-off election in accordance with our Local 707 bylaws (Article 6, Nominations and Elections Section 3 (b) When a run-off election becomes necessary, such election shall take place not later than the third week after ballots have been tabulated), was scheduled for Wednesday April 8th , 2020 with an advanced poll on Friday April 3rd ,2020.

Our Local was concerned about the safety our members and our ability to conduct elections with paper ballots during this pandemic while the Oakville Assembly Complex is in a production shutdown.

As a result our Local Executive Board had a meeting today, reviewed our options and have unanimously voted to postpone this run-off election until Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 (a date that will coincide with our scheduled Retiree Chapters Meeting at the Local Union Hall), with an advanced poll on Friday June 12th, 2020 . Other than a change in dates, this election will be in accordance with all other Local 707 bylaws and the Unifor Constitution.

In accordance with the Unifor Constitutional Department’s direction, we have notified the Unifor National Executive board, the Unifor Constitutional Department and have requested that we be granted an extension for our Local 707 run-off election.

In Solidarity,

Unifor Local 707, Executive board
