April 28 – Day of Mourning Ceremony 2pm

This is a notice to let all members of our union know of the upcoming Day of Mourning Ceremony that takes place every year on April 28th. For a local that has experienced loss such as ours when a fallen brother lost his life while at work, we especially need to be aware of the dangers of our surroundings at the workplace. We have a tremendous amount of resources that help protect us from potential harm in the workplace and we are educated on a monthly basis by our Health and Safety Reps at the monthly General Membership meeting but we all have to be aware.

Our local has had a long history of being a part of the ODLC community although at this point in time, we remain not affiliated due to reasons beyond our control. We continue to work with the entire labour community that surrounds us and we continue to have Health and Safety advocates like our H&S representatives, our H&S committee, our membership and leadership both retired and active that stand up to make sure we are all able to go home safely after a shift at work.

On April 28, we mourn the loss of those who have lost their lives or even been injured on the job but we continue to fight for those who are living to ensure we all make it home to our loved ones each and every night.

If you have time on April 28, at 2 pm, please join us at Centennial Square in Oakville (Oakville Public Library) and show support for this ongoing battle. Until we report zero deaths at workplaces across the country, we will continue to bring attention to this cause.

In Solidarity,

Dave Millar
