Thank You- Christmas Food Drive

To the Members of Unifor 707:

On behalf of the clients and volunteers of Fare Share Food Bank, I’d like to thank you all very much for your recent donation.  Seven carts full of food were a welcome addition to our inventory and will certainly assist us in our efforts to help the less fortunate citizens of our community.

Over the past few months, we have seen a 90% increase in the number of families we assist on a monthly basis.  The price of groceries has skyrocketed while the community’s need for our resources has risen. While Oakville has the 3rd highest average income in Canada, it’s still a fact that we have the highest poverty rate in all of Halton!  Therefore, donations such as yours are still very much needed.

Fare Share is operated entirely by volunteers and we have been serving those in need for more than 35 years.  This past six months, we have provided, on average, for more than 780 families – approximately 2400 individuals; many of whom were children.   In November we had our highest total ever, with 877 families needing our support.

Please pass on our sincere thanks to all those who participated in and helped to organize this food drive.  The union has been our staunch supporter for many years and your contributions are very much appreciated.

Regards,

Jennifer Russell

Director

Fare Share Food Bank

Note: In addition to seven carts of food our gate drive collection total was just under $3,000. We will be moving a motion to top this up to $3,500.00 at this Sundays General Membership meeting.

If you missed the opportunity to Donate to the Fare Share Food Bank, and still wish to do so, see attached link.

The plant gate collection was a huge success. Thank you to the membership for your continued generosity! The $3,500 was delivered to the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank along with a $4,000 donation from Unifor Canada.
