National Indigenous Peoples Day- June 21st

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and honour the cultures, contributions, and enduring strength of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. It is also a time for reflection—on Canada’s colonial history, on the ways in which ongoing settler-colonialism continues to impact the present-day realities of Indigenous communities, and on the union’s collective responsibility to work toward reconciliation through action.

On June 21, Unifor will mark National Indigenous Peoples Day by sponsoring and attending the 2025 Na-Me-Res Traditional Pow Wow in Toronto. Unifor Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi will participate, and all Unifor members in the area are encouraged to attend and show their support.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is not only a celebration, it’s also a call to action. It’s a reminder to honour Indigenous leadership, listen deeply, and support the work being done every day to protect land, language, culture, and rights.

Throughout June, Unifor has highlighted the work of four remarkable Indigenous activists whose leadership is shaping movements for justice and equity across the country. Read more.

Unifor encourages all members to participate in local Indigenous events, support Indigenous-owned businesses and artists, and take steps to deepen their knowledge of local Indigenous histories. Building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities must be rooted in respect, learning, and solidarity.
