Eligibility for Safety Shoes and Safety Glasses

Recently we have been getting many questions with regards to Safety Shoe & Safety Glasses coverage from those on indefinite lay-off that I would like to address.

Safety Glasses with side shields – if not wraparound lenses.  The company paid prescription Safety Glasses are eligible for all seniority employees who are actively at work.

In accordance with the Exhibit B letter found on page 48 dated September 25th, 2023, seniority employees actively at work are eligible for the Green Patch or Blue Tag safety footwear.

For further clarification, any employee on Indefinite lay-off, short term or long-term negotiated disability benefits, WSIB loss of earnings claim, any type of leave of absence or who are not actively at work, would not be eligible for Safety Boots or Safety Glasses until they return to work and are on the active roll.

Should you have any further questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

In Solidarity,

John Mullin
