Happy International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD), a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. While progress has been made in many areas, there is still much work to be done. IWD serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to address issues like gender discrimination, inequality in the workplace, access to education and violence against women.

We have many strong sisters here at local 707 and want to recognize years of collective strength, perseverance and progression. On March 6th several sisters along with allies from the local had an opportunity to attend the IWD dinner hosted by the Women of Halton Action Movement at the Oakville Conference Centre. Keynote speaker Jully Black was extremely inspirational and empowering.

The 2024 IWD campaign theme is Inspire Inclusion. The #Inspireinclusion campaign aims to forge a more inclusive world for women.

The following is a statement released from the national union highlighting the significance of IWD.
