Brothers & Sisters,

There are a few scenarios that members may fall into for this layoff.  Please read below to see which scenario best describes your situation.  If you do not fall into one of these scenarios and do not know how to report, contact the Benefit Office.

Last Day Worked Friday May 6th (Report 8 hours holiday pay earnings for Friday May 20th, 2022)

Majority of Members

  1. You were laid off PP20, May 8-14, 2022, and you last worked or had an authorized day off on May 6th 2022.  If this is your scenario and you have attained seniority, then you will qualify for holiday pay on Friday May 20, 2022.  Therefore, you would complete your EI report, indicating 8 hours worked and income received (your rate of pay x 8) for PP21, May 15-21, 2022. To qualify for the Monday May 23rd holiday pay you would have needed to work or had an authorized day off Monday May 9th 2022. Therefore, for PP22, May 22-28, 2022 you would complete your EI report, indicating 0 hours worked and $0 income.

Last Day Worked was prior to Friday May 6th ( Does not qualify for holiday pay)

Small Minority of Members

  • You were laid off PP20, May 8-14, 2022, and you did NOT work May 6 and/or did NOT have an authorized day off.  If this is your scenario then you will NOT qualify for holiday pay on Friday May 20, 2022 or Monday May 23, 2022.  Therefore, you would complete your EI report, indicating 0 hours worked and $0 income for PP21, May 15-21, 2022 and PP22 May 22-28, 2022.

Open E.I Claim -Worked PP20  (Report 40 hours earnings for PP 21 and PP 22)

Minority of Members

For Members with at least 3 years seniority, that worked for or had 40 hours of compensated earnings for PP20, May 8-14, 2022, and have an open active EI claim and you have been continuing your bi-weekly reports.  If this is your scenario then you will be entitled to 32 hours of Automatic Short Work Week Benefits and 8 holiday pay on Friday May 20th 2022 for PP21, May 15-21, 2022.  Therefore, you would complete your EI report, indicating you worked 40 hours and income received (your rate of pay x 40) for the week of PP21, May 15-21, 2022.

For the week of PP 22, May 22-29, 2022 you would report the same.

As you qualified for holiday pay for Monday May 23rd and have 40 hours of compensated earnings for the week previous (PP21), you will also be entitled to 32 hours of Automatic Short Work Week Benefits and 8 holiday pay on Monday May 23rd for PP22, May 22-29, 2022

No E.I Claim- Worked PP20  NO report (Do not start a claim until you have a week with no earnings)

Minority of Members

For Members with at least 3 years seniority, that worked for or had 40 hours of compensated earnings for PP20, May 8-14, 2022, but your EI claim is inactive because you reported a return to work or forgot to complete your reports or if your EI claim had come to an end.

If this is your scenario then you will be entitled to 32 hours of Automatic Short Work Week Benefits and 8 holiday pay on Friday May 20th 2022 for PP21, May 15-21, 2022.  As you qualified for holiday pay for Monday May 23rd and have 40 hours of compensated earnings for the week previous PP21. You will also be entitled to 32 hours of Automatic Short Work Week Benefits and 8 holiday pay on Monday May 23rd for PP22, May 22-29, 2022.

There is no need to complete EI reports and no need at this time to apply to re-open/re-activate your claim.  There is also no need to apply to start a new EI claim at this time.

Until you have a week where you will receive no pay, there is no need to apply for EI.

Open or No E.I Claim -Worked PP20 less than 3 years seniority but over 90 days (Report 8 hours holiday pay earnings for Friday May 20th, 2022 and Monday May 23rd, 2022)

Very small Minority of Members, if any

For Members that DO NOT have at least 3 years seniority (but do have 90+ days seniority), that worked for or had 40 hours of compensated earnings for PP20, May 8-14, 2022, and have an open active EI claim and you have been continuing your bi-weekly reports.  If this is your scenario then you will be entitled to 8 hours of Holiday Pay for Friday May 20th 2022.  Therefore, you would complete your EI report, indicating you worked 8 hours and income received (your rate of pay x 8) for the week of PP21, May 15-21, 2022.

For the week of PP 22, May 22-29, 2022 you would report the similarly.  You will be entitled to 8 hours of Holiday Pay for Monday May 23rd for PP22.  Therefore, you would complete your EI report, indicating you worked 8 hours and income received (your rate of pay x 8) for the week of PP21, May 15-21, 2022.
