Brothers and Sisters,

Orange Shirt Day originated in 1973, when Phyllis (Jack) Webstad was stripped of a new orange shirt purchased by her grandmother on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission residential school in Williams Lake, B.C., leaving her feeling worthless and insignificant.

To raise awareness and support reconciliation events the Local encouraged members to purchase Every Child Matters orange t-shirt for $10 where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Indigenous causes that will help advance reconciliation.

Thanks to the engagement and generous support of our membership, we were able to raise $3390.00 for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society https://www.irsss.ca/
